In 2008, Kara Dolce was a 26-year-old girl working in New York City looking to grow her career and live the city life! After her grandmother "Mema" passed away from a long battle with breast cancer, Kara performed a self-breast exam only to find a small lump on her left breast.

Kara then immediately went to her doctor for which she was told "you are too young" to worry. She pushed to have an exam and biopsy to find out she had Stage 3B estrogen-receptive, Her2+, non-BRCA gene breast cancer. Kara went on to have a double mastectomy, 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 weeks of radiation, fertility treatments (egg retrieval), 1 year of Herceptin treatments and will be on hormone therapy for a total of 10 years. Kara did this all with a smile on her face, lipstick on her lips and strength in her heart.

Kara was "Fighting Pretty." After receiving so much love and support from everyone around her, Kara decided to help women feel this sense of strength by helping them feel beautiful and inspired. She started making care packages (a.k.a "Pretty Packages") out of her 800 square foot apartment in Brooklyn, NY. and officially started her non-profit organization, Fighting Pretty. In less than one year, Fighting Pretty sent 500 Pretty Package to women all over the country.

Fighting Pretty has been recognized by the American Cancer Society and has received in-kind product donations from companies such as Revlon, Maybelline, Happy Socks and more, and even has a new “Fighting Pretty” nail polish named after them by O.P.I. To date, Fighting Pretty has sent over 3,500 Pretty Packages all over the United States including several countries globally, and operates out of Portland, Oregon. Kara and her growing team at Fighting Pretty works every day to truly help women – of all ages, all over the world, battling cancer feel strong and beautiful.
